Hanna Yanovska is the voice of travel poetry and irony
Education and profession
Born in 1980 in Kharkiv, she graduated as an applied linguist at Kharkiv National University named after V. N. Karazin. In 2007, she defended her PhD thesis in general linguistics, devoted to the frame representation of irony in the multilingual press — a topic that successfully combines theoretical depth and media relevance.
Creativity and literature
Known as a poet, translator and artist, she has been actively involved in artistic life since 2000. Her poetic work is distinguished by motives of real and imaginary journeys, cultural polyphony and subtle intellectual play. "The Golden Rhinoceros" (2019), inspired by a trip to South Africa, occupies a special place among her poetry books. Yanovska's poems are reflections on the borders of languages, cultures and experiences.
Translation and teaching activities
Until 2015, she worked as an English language teacher at KhPI, and also translated for the Ukrainian publication National Geographic. After that, she focused on freelance translations in cooperation with publishing houses. Her work covers texts of various genres, which indicates high professional flexibility.
Life during the war
After the full-scale invasion of 2022, she was forced to leave Kharkiv. Together with her family, she lived in Lviv and Belgrade, continuing to create and work despite the circumstances.
