Biography

This figure is one of the leading intellectuals of the Ukrainian humanitarian space - a poet, literary critic, critic, researcher of philosophical poetry and a teacher with extensive experience in academic and cultural work.


Education and formation of a scientific school

Born in 1944 in the Ukrainian village of Verkhni Khologory on the territory of modern Moldova, she grew up in a family with a deep sense of Ukrainian identity. Her father, repressed during Stalin's time, returned from the camps when his daughter was only a few years old. This environment hardened the spirit and critical thinking. Higher education was obtained at the Faculty of Philology of Chernivtsi University, then postgraduate studies at the Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow, as well as the defense of candidate and later doctoral theses at the Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.


Scientific and teaching activities

After the beginning of repressions among the Ukrainian intelligentsia in the early 1970s, she was forced to leave her position at an academic institute. For over 15 years, she taught at the Karpenko-Kary Kyiv Theater Institute, where she developed her own methodology for teaching the theory and history of literature.

Her monographs on Valery Luhovskyi, Larisa Reisner, philosophical lyrics and poetic metaphor became significant events in domestic literary studies. A special place is occupied by the work "Poetry of Knowledge", which opened a typological and conceptual approach to philosophical poetry.


International cooperation and recognition

In 1998 and 2000, she received Fulbright scholarships and worked at the Ukrainian Research Institute of Harvard University. During these periods, she implemented large-scale scientific projects dedicated, in particular, to Vasyl Svidzinsky and Serhiy Efremov.

Organized the first academic edition of Svidzinsky's works, carried out archival and commentary work on his poetic heritage. She was also the editor of the two-volume collection of Yefremov's legacy, including his diaries.


Cultural work and public intelligence

She worked in newspapers and magazines, including "Literary Ukraine", "Ukrainian culture", "Evening Kyiv". She headed the press center of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, was a leading researcher at the Maksym Rylsky museum, participated in the formation of cultural policy at the state level.

She is also known as the author and teacher of specialized courses in modern literary studies, analysis of literary texts, and the history of Ukrainian philosophical poetry.


Public activity

Member of the Association of Ukrainian Writers and the National Union of Writers of Ukraine. In 2017–2019, she was a member of the Taras Shevchenko National Award Committee of Ukraine. She was also on the jury of the Vasyl Stus award and the chapter of the Yuriy Shevelev award.


Her contribution to the development of Ukrainian literary thought, the return and understanding of forgotten names, in particular, philosophical lyrics and the ethical dimension of literature, is decisive. She is one of those who create the foundations of the humanitarian culture of independent Ukraine.
