Biography
Maria Kozak is a Ukrainian poet, translator, literary critic, author and teacher, born in 1969 in the village of Cheremoshna, Verkhovyna district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. She is an important figure in modern Ukrainian literature, known for her poetic works and translations of European classics.
Education and career
Maria studied Russian and German philology and during her career became a translator, author and teacher. Since 1991, she has been the author of the texts of Ivano-Frankivsk musical formations "Old Stanislavov" and "Rara avis".
Literary activity
Author of several poetry collections:
- "Park on the slope" (1996)
- "Light of the outskirts" (2000)
- "Temptation to speak" (2008)
A poem from the first collection was awarded the Boo-Ba-Boo Award for the best poem of the year. Her poems were repeatedly published in literary magazines, such as "Pereval", "Chetver", "Criticism".
Maria Kozak also runs a literary studio at the regional organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, where she helps new authors develop in the literary direction.
Translation activity
Maria is actively involved in translations from Czech and German. One of her famous translations is the European bestseller by Peter Zilagi "The Last of the "Window Giraffe", published in the "Collection of Perfetsky" series by the "Classics" publishing house.
Scientific activity
In 2001, she defended her PhD thesis on the topic "Poetics of Joseph Roth's fiction". She was also a scholar of the Austrian government.
Awards and recognition
In 2007, Maria Kozak became the Laureate of the Hubert Burda Award, which is awarded in Germany to Eastern European lyricists. This award is a significant recognition of her contribution to the development of literature.
Translations of her works
Maria Kozak's poems have been translated into French, German, Polish, English, Russian and Belarusian languages, which proves her international recognition and popularity.
Modern activity
Maria Kozak continues to live and work in Ivano-Frankivsk, actively participating in the cultural life of the city and the country. Her work is a significant part of Ukrainian literature, and her poetry deeply resonates with modern readers.
