Biography

Marianna Kiyanovska is a Ukrainian poet, prose writer, translator, literary critic, critic and public figure, whose voice has become an integral part of the modern Ukrainian literary canon. Her work is deep, philosophical, emotionally acute, always connected with the ethics of memory, humanism and cultural responsibility.

Education and formation

She was born in Lviv.
In 1997 she graduated from the Philological Faculty of Ivan Franko Lviv National University.

During her student years, she was a member of the women's literary association MMYUNNA TUG, created by five young writers:
Maryana Savka, Marianna Kiyanovska, Yulia Mishchenko, Natalka Snyadanko, Natalya Tomkiv.
The name TUGA means: Society of lonely graph addicts.

Public and literary activities

  • From 2001 to 2005 — coordinator of the Lviv branch of the Association of Ukrainian Writers
  • Member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine (since 2000), the Association of Ukrainian Writers (since 2000) and Ukrainian PEN (since 2013)
  • Founder and director of the independent literary award "Velikiy Yizhak" (since 2011), which supports Ukrainian children's books and reading culture among young people

International activity

  • Participant of the "Sich Uyazdowska" action in Warsaw (1999)
  • Scholar of the Polish program "Gaude Polonia" (2003, 2008)
  • CEI Fellowship laureate of the International Festival in Vilenica (Slovenia, 2007)
  • Participant of "Kyiv Lavra" (2012) and many other international festivals

Translation activity

Marianna Kiyanovska translates from Polish, Russian, Belarusian, Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian and other languages. Her own works have been translated into more than 15 languages, including:

Today

Lives and works in Lviv, where he continues active creative, translation and organizational activities. Her literature is high and at the same time open, it talks about traumas and hopes, historical truth and human dignity, about the power of language and the importance of culture as a factor of survival.
