Maryna Shirshova-Dyachenko was born January 23, 1968. Ukrainian fantasy writer, who mainly writes in Russian, but also has works in Ukrainian.
In 1989 she graduated from the Kyiv Theater Institute majoring in theater and film actress. She worked as an actress, in particular she played the role of Maryika in the film "Forward, for the Hetman's Treasures". Later, she taught stage language skills at the same institute.
Creative Duet
She is married to Serhiy Dyachenko, a psychiatrist and writer. Together they formed one of the most famous creative tandems in modern literature. Their work includes:
- more than 30 novels and stories
- dozens of stories
- books for children
- screenplays for movies
The works have been translated into many languages of the world.
Topic and Style
Their prose is distinguished by an atmosphere of warmth, humanity and moral search. The main topic is moral choice in difficult situations where there are no unambiguous solutions. Despite the drama of the plots, the works leave a feeling of hope.
They work in a genre that they call "m-realism", without giving a clear definition of this term.
Moving

- 2013 — emigration to the USA
After the move, they focused on script work for film and television, stopping writing new novels. According to them, "the world in which they lived no longer exists".
