Olesya Yaremchuk — the voice of cultural dialogue and literary reporting


Professional path and academic base

Born in Lviv in 1991, she is one of the most famous Ukrainian researchers and practitioners in the field of literary reporting. She received her education at the Faculty of Journalism of the Ivan Franko National University, and further academic improvement at the University of Vienna, researching travel anthropology in the works of Joseph Roth. Her dissertation covers the intersection of media, culture, identity, and mobility—and has become an academic foundation for practical literary work.


Journalism and reporting

Yaremchuk's career is connected with in-depth reporting and cultural journalism. She worked as a correspondent in the newspaper "Den", contributed as a freelancer to domestic and international publications (Litakcent, New Eastern Europe, Ukrainian magazine). She completed journalistic internships at DW (Bonn) and Hamburger Abendblatt (Hamburg), which shaped her as an author with a global vision.


"Our Others" project

One of the central projects of the author was the series of literary reports "Our Others", published in the magazine The Ukrainians. This is an interdisciplinary initiative on the border of ethnography, cultural journalism and narrative writing, which tells about the life of national minorities in Ukraine. Yaremchuk's reports were translated into Czech, German, English, which provided them with international recognition and drew attention to the topics of multiculturalism and identity in the Ukrainian context.


Curator, editor, teacher

  • She was the curator of the literary reportage program "Overcoming Borders" (Publishers' Forum, 2016).
  • Headed the publishing house of reportage literature "Boat", which is a pioneer of this genre in Ukraine.
  • Management of the "Samovidets" art report competition, popularizing the genre among new authors.
  • Since 2021, he has been teaching the "Reporting" course at UCU, passing on his experience to future media people.
