Biography
Svitlana Vyacheslavivna Pyrkalo is a Ukrainian journalist, writer, editor and communicator with a bright career in Ukraine and Great Britain. Her path is an example of a combination of literary talent, social activism and a deep cultural sense.
Education and the beginning of a career
She was born on July 18, 1976 in the village of Takhtaulove, Poltava Region. She graduated from the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University in 1998, majoring in philology, teacher of Ukrainian language and literature.
She started her professional activity while still studying:
- 1997–1999 — press secretary of the People's Movement of Ukraine
- At the same time, she is the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine "Eva"
- Subsequently, she was the editor-in-chief of the TV program "Without Taboo with Mykola Veresny" on the 1+1 TV channel (2000–2001)
Life in London and the BBC
In 2001 she moved to London, where she worked as a journalist at BBC News Ukrainian Service for ten years. It was here that:
- founder of the "BBC Book of the Year" literary award (2005)
- the initiator of the expansion of the competition — the creation of the Children's book of the year nomination (2012)
Since 2011 he has been working at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the Communications Office, where he deals with international communications.
Writing and publishing activities
Svitlana Pyrkalo is the author of artistic and journalistic books, an active publicist who cooperates with the Ukrainian press. Her style stands out:
